Lizzie Ballinger

Movement Practitioner & Training Body Psychotherapist

Lizzie Ballinger is a Movement Practitioner and training Body Psychotherapist. She is Lead Movement Tutor at RADA and has taught extensively in actor training for 15 years. As a teenager Lizzie embraced ballet and competitive dressage, went on to train as an actor at MMU, and found her way into movement through an MA at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Lizzie’s practice is based on the pioneering work of Trish Arnold and is greatly influenced by Litz Pisk and Jacques Lecoq. Following a two year mentorship with Jane Gibson (an Emmy nominated Movement Director and Choreographer with a prolific resume including the first and only Head of Movement at the National Theatre) she wrote her first book. Published by Bloomsbury it documents Trish Arnolds’ previously unrecorded movements and reflects on the art of teaching Pure Movement to actors.

As a Movement Director Lizzie’s credits include The Royal Court, Cheek-by-Jowl, Watford Theatre, Soho Theatre and NT Studio, among others, and collaborations with a conceptual artist creating devised, site specific, community based productions. She oversees and delivers the Intimacy Coordination within RADA’s BA actor training and all final year productions.

LizzieBallinger&Co is her private practice offering workshops and one-to-one coaching for those inside and outside the arts. Monthly movement workshops held in Central London provide working actors an opportunity to reconnect with their craft. Regularly co-hosted with an eclectic mix of industry specialists from directing, acting, voice and text allows actors the chance to integrate their physical exploration. Lizzie also mentors the next generation of movement practitioners, both internationally and in the UK.
